Review: The Purple Cloud Project

The Purple Cloud Project The Purple Cloud Project by Adolfo E Ramirez
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I never really got into this book. I never felt connected to the story or the people in it. The writing was good, just not my cup of tea.

Review: The Butterfly Garden

The Butterfly Garden The Butterfly Garden by Dot Hutchison
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is not the type of book I would normally read. I almost stopped a few times because it was horrifying to me. It was a good story though, obviously, I gave it 5 stars. It just challenged me in a very personal way. I would definitely read another book by Dot Hutchison!

Review: Blood Vow

Blood Vow Blood Vow by J.R. Ward

The quality of the relationships of this side series seems lacking. I don't care about these characters at all. I preferred the main characters of the BDB parts of the story.

Review: Antidote

Antidote Antidote by Taylor Hondos
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was good and intense from page one. It is a type of tale that I've come across more and more often, but it's not so much like the others that I was bored. It in fact was the opposite. I felt compelled to keep reading because I needed to know what was going to happen. I did feel confused at times, but that was more from the wording than it was from the storytelling.

I am looking forward to the next book in the trilogy. The way the first book ended left me groaning at the thought of another year until I could find out what happens next! Good thing the next book is already available.

Review: Phoenix Awakens

Phoenix Awakens Phoenix Awakens by Eliza Nolan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This story was basic, and simple. The perfect combination for a teen romance. The vernacular is definitely current teen, made apparent by the use of "anyways" and "you don't even know". Although slightly annoying to me, it's fine for the audience this is most likely written for. The over arching storyline is quite interesting, and I will be happy to read the next installment when it's released. The narrator was very good with different characters, and had a nice voice acting quality to her. No dull reading of the text. This is certainly worth the listen!

Disclosure: I was gifted this audiobook in return for an honest review.

This is the type of book that I don't feel the need to "review". So many others have, both short and long reviews, that my thoughts have already been covered. Good stuff.

Review: Crimson Death

Crimson Death Crimson Death by Laurell K. Hamilton
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Too much sex. No... too much of the same stuff from the last 15 books. Each time the sex started I was able to easily skim over it all until it was over. That saved me from suffering through 1/3 of the book. The actual story, the parts where Anita just does her job as a Marshal/Necromancer/Vampire Queen, etc., is better in this book. Still not the same quality as the first books, but interesting still.

I won't spend money next time around. I'll wait for a library copy. Also, someone show Ms. Hamilton how to use a thesaurus.

Review: The Life We Bury

The Life We Bury The Life We Bury by Allen Eskens
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I only read this book because it was given to me in a book exchange. I used one of my audible credits so I could listen as I read. Before the first chapter was over the Narrator had me thoroughly engrossed. He was so amazing, and the story was so interesting that I listened nonstop and finished it in one day.

The story is more than one type of story. It's more than the story of Mr Iverson. It's a story about perception. Perception of ourselves and each other, and the assumptions we make.

It's a terrific book, excellent writing, and spot on narration. Read it, better still, listen to it.

My swap partner for my first time participating, was Tula over at Primary School Library Diva . She sent me some amazing books, a bookmark, and a coloring journal. How cool is that?! I wasn't so creative, I'm sorry Tula! Next time, I will remember how awesome my first swap was, and make it more fun!

Thanks to the Chaotic Goddess's Beth & Angie, for putting this together, and for the hard work that I'm sure goes into it!

Review: Bird Box

Bird Box Bird Box by Josh Malerman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"Written with the narrative tension of The Road and the exquisite terror of classic Stephen King, Bird Box is a propulsive, edge-of-your-seat horror thriller, set in an apocalyptic near-future world—a masterpiece of suspense from the brilliantly imaginative Josh Malerman.

Something is out there . . .

Something terrifying that must not be seen. One glimpse and a person is driven to deadly violence. No one knows what it is or where it came from."

That's all I had to read, and I started it. Bird Box is fantastic! It was intense and harrowing, with a lead character who had me feeling her emotions all through the book. Cassandra Campbell was the narrator, and she did a superb job. I would definitely listen to her again.

Review: Blue Lily, Lily Blue

Blue Lily, Lily Blue Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I liked this book best so far. I'm not sure if this is because I know the characters now, or if the story is progressing in a way I like. Either way, it's still keeping me interested and curious.

My favorite is still the narrator Will Patton. He is amazing, and his voices are spot on. No matter what he narrates, I will listen.

Review: The Angel of Death

The Angel of Death The Angel of Death by Elicia Hyder
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I tried to pace myself, but I read this every chance I got! I love this series, and I feel like these characters are my friends. I wonder about them when I'm waiting for the next book, and I re-read the books when I have a lapse in good books keeping my attention.

Angels, Demons, and Humans. What more is there to say? Read it. Seriously.

Review: Second Coming

Second Coming Second Coming by Amanda Carney
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was such a great PNR! The cliffhanger in book 1 picked up at the same spot in book 2, and wrapped up nicely by the end. With the introduction of multiple paranormal character types, the story takes off, and becomes quite intense. I hope that Amanda Carney continues to write about these characters, I'd love to know what happens next in their lives.

Review: First Fruits

First Fruits First Fruits by Amanda Carney
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Different, but not. It's a paranormal romance, for sure. It's not too weighed down with sex, but it's there. What's extra nice is the fact that there is a very good story, and it takes the stage throughout. If you've ever read the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series, you know that what started out amazingly good, turned to nothing but group sex and almost no story. I don't see this happening with Amanda Carney. There is real talent there, and it's based in a solid story.

Great book for discussion too, if you belong to a book club. Add this one to your lists! I'll be reading the next in the series soon.

I was into the book from the first sentence. It was fun, interesting, and has a great foundation for more books. I'm happy I have this book a shot.

I liked the narrator very much. Luke Daniels did some great voices, especially for Oberon.
